Here are highlights from Vermont law on drinking and driving;

Open container law is for both driver and passengers.  No body can possess open alcohol containers in the vehicle.  1st Offense license suspension for 90 days.  2nd Offense license suspension for 18 months and mandatory jail time. 3rd Offense license suspension is permanently with possible vehicle confiscation.  'Per Se' blood alcohol level is .08 and those age 21 and younger blood alcohol level must not be more than .02 under the zero tolerance law.  If suspected of DUI you must submit to breath, blood or urine sample and if you refuse you will face mandatory license suspension. A possible alcohol education program that focuses on drinking and driving prevention may be mandated and participation is in order to restore driving privileges.
