Here are highlights from Pennsylvania law on driving under the influence of alcohol;

Zero tolerance law makes it illegal for persons under age 21 to drive with any amount of alcohol in their system. This law penalizes persons under 21 for operating a vehicle with a BAC of .00.
You will face an enhanced penalty if your BAC level is .16, having minors in the car, speeding over a certain limit, having previous convictions and refusal of submitting breath, blood or urine sample.  Under the implied consent law if suspected of DUI you must submit a breath, blood or urine sample. Open container law is for driver and passengers.  License suspension for one year on 1st offense.  For 2nd offense license suspension is one year with mandatory jail time and mandatory alcohol education that focuses on drunk driving prevention.  Mandatory assessment of offenders drinking level will be assessed and if the evaluation finds that the driver is alcohol dependent, the driver can be mandated to participate in some form of a treatment or support group.  After second offense one can also face possible ignition interlock, a machine hooked up to your cars ignition that detects alcohol on the driver.  The driver must blow into the device to start and keep the car running.  The offender is responsible for the cost of installation and maintenance of the device.  License suspension on 3rd offense is also for a year and all the above.
