Below are highlights from Connecticut law on operating a vehicle under the influence;

'Per Se' Blood Alcohol Content Level is .08

Zero Tolerance BAC Level is .02 - This law penalize persons under 21 for operating a vehicle with a BAC of .00 (if the arresting officer detects the smell of alcohol) or with negligible BAC levels such as .01 or .02 percent.

Enhanced Penalty BAC Level is .16 - persons with blood alcohol content of .16 would get an enhanced penalty.  Other factors that increase penalties for drunk driving would be driving with minors in the car, traffic accident, previous convictions, speeding, refusal of taking blood, breath or urine test.  Implied Consent Law expects person that is suspected of DUI to submit to a test, if refused mandatory suspension of drivers license can be the result.

License Suspension 1st Offense: 1 Year

License Suspension 2nd Offense: 3 Years, mandatory jail time and possible ignition interlock which is a machine that you cover the cost and maintenance for.  The driver must breath into the machine in order to start the vehicle and to continue driving, this is to detect the sense of alcohol.

License Suspension 3rd Offense: Permanent

Mandatory Alcohol Education, Assessment/treatment is mandatory to have driving privileges restored.  Penalties and fines can be reduced.  While license is suspended if one can prove a special case such as being the sole support of their families, to allow limited driving privileges during suspension.
